Sep 22, 2015 · As you probably now, Zbrush doesn't support Ptex. I'm not a super fan of Ptex (but I will be soon) but sometimes I do not have time or simply I don't want to make proper UV mapping. Then, if Zbrush doesn't export Ptex and my assets don't have any sort of UV coordinates, can't I use Ptex at all for my displacement information? Yes, you can use Ptex.

Re: Pixo announces Zbrush 4 PTex was released for 3D Coat and Houdini (Arrgh) Autodesk will probably bring support for PTex in the next version of Mudbox ( I just hope they release it before the years end )and maybe even some of there umbrella 3D software.

Oct 13, 2011 · no uv does not exist. the engine ALWAYS has to feed UV into the pipeline to render any texture at all. ptex for realtime is a totally horrible idea unless I missed something about it, because instead of no "UV" you get quadruple the vertices (one for each quad edge onto which you paint) as it generates local UVs all over the place to remove the need that you have to do a correct, optimized UV ...

May 31, 2012 · But why do we still need UV mapping if PTex made it easier? Well, not all renders or game engines deal with Ptex mapping. Thats why we still need to work with UVs. Curiosity: Vray Render works fine with PTex (Does Anyone know another one?) For this example, I chose a 3D Model from the 3DS Max demo folder.
