Mar 09, 2010 · It's simply a warning to say that if you try and store an image file on the drive, it won't be able to do so in a single huge file (huge being larger than 4GB) because the file system (FAT32) simply doesn't allow for it.

Jan 07, 2005 · Sri, to hold files larger than 4GB you need to have your file system set as NTFS not FAT32. Win ME does not support this, you will need to upgrade to win2000 or winXP. What this means is that you cannot make an ISO image of a disk to store on your hard drive.

Jan 21, 2008 · Your D: drive is formatted using the FAT32 file system and you can't store files larger than 4GB in size on drives using that file system. Convert it to NTFS to get around that limitation. 'Device not ready (medium not present)' means you don't have a disc in the drive or the drive doesn't support the media you've put in it.

Mar 01, 2007 · ok for everyone who is wondering... the file-size limit on FAT32 is (2^32)-1 bytes, or one byte less than a full 4GB. the partition size can handle up to 2TB of data. do not confuse "file size" with "partition size". The FAT32 structure is needed more for Linux operations eg ubuntu.

Simply speaking, people cannot copy or move an individual file over 4GB to a FAT32 drive, even if they have enough free space on the drive. The reason is that FAT32 was designed over 20 years ago, and even though new file systems that allow larger capacity has been created, FAT32 is still popular on USB flash drive, memory card, digital camera, DVD, etc.
