Jan 19, 2012 · Hi Keith. According to Drobo’s support page, the Drobo must have version 1.4 firmware or higher to recognize 3TB drives.And the update was not passing through on FireWire which is identified as an issue on the Drobo release notes for the firmware update.

May 01, 2012 · I filled the device to 9.24TB of 10.86TB and the shares disappear. I can ping the drobo but not access any of the files. Apparently filling a drobo up too much bricks it. Support said the only thing I can do is buy two more 4TB drives (at about 375$ each) and install them (WTF!!!). I have to get my data back so I do so.

Feb 24, 2014 · I just purchased a Drobo 5N. I put in 5 Seagate 3TB drives, and added a 128gb SSD in the mSATA slot to enable the Hot Caching feature. It is painfully slow. My PC and the Drobo are both wired into a Gigabit router. Copying a 780mb file from my PC to the Drobo takes 68 seconds. 11.5mbps is pretty slow, right? I am unable to stream from the Drobo.

Nov 30, 2015 · I think you'd want to check with the Drobo manufacturers as to whether the 5N can handle the 8TB capacity per drive.. Also, Seagate suggest that this drive is NOT suitable for NAS use and recommend their NAS range of drives, which are smaller capacity than the new archive drives.

May 01, 2013 · It was one of the new 3TB drives right out of the static bag. I have enough drives to setup the Drobo with dual drive redundancy so that's what I did. Now I'm just waiting for the warrantee exchange of the 3TB drive and I'll be finally done with this little project. Thanks for all the help.
