One thing that is confusing is the E-mail engine setting on the Mail admin page. If the SMTP module is enabled and installed, would it be a good idea for mime mail to just force that setting to the SMTP mail engine. Finally, one last thing I noticed was the send loop in the smtp_mailengine.

Thanks webchick. drupal_mail() looks like a great tool for module builders, but it's completely inappropriate for simple situations. A wrapper function might help, but I frankly find it difficult to imagine a use case for a site builder where drupal_mail() or wrappers thereof would have advantages over drupal_mail_send().

Jul 10, 2018 · Simplenews is a great module and a lot of Drupal sites use it to send mass mailing to users or subscribers. However, IMO this module has some per-design limitations: The messages cannot be personalized based on the recipient data. You cannot insert formulas like "Dear [first-name] [last-name]" or "Your account balance is $[amount]".
