Oct 26, 2019 · In a dual monitor setting, when a window regarding the desktop pops up (like when I try to remove a file from a desktop) it does at the center of the two monitors considered together, which is in the second monitor. Is there a way to make it pop up on the same monitor where the action is happening (aka the primary monitor?)

Unfortunately, I crashed (tried to compile a program while running a large virtual box) the computer yesterday, and when it came back up, I was back to a single monitor again. I had not changed any settings or files related to any software installed. TL;DR: Dual monitor support started working out of the blue, and upon reboot, disappears.

Dual monitor settings in Ubuntu are clumsy at best. I have tried set ups on numerous machines and I find the most reliable method is to change the monitors.xml file. For more information on monitors.xml, check out the Ubuntu Wiki on Resolutions. First of all lets open up a terminal:

Aug 14, 2009 · I just recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 from 11.04 and have a little problem with the default settings for dual monitors. In 11.04, there was a setting in the display settings that would make the monitor positions default for logins but that seems to be missing in 11.10.
