I'm currently using E1000 driver with NAPI support (*Intel 82571EB) *and thinking to use E1000e since E1000 won't be maintained in the future. …

Aug 23, 2019 · The e1000e Linux base driver supports the 2.4.x, 2.6.x, and 3.x kernels, and includes support for Itanium® 2-based systems. It is only supported as a loadable module. Intel is not supplying patches against the kernel source to allow for static linking of the drivers.

OK cool, thanks for the help. I downloaded and built ethtool-3.13 and ran those commands. We haven't found a way to make the problem happen on demand but yesterday there were 34 occurrences, so the debug cycle for this bug currently has a built-in latency : ) I'll post an update tomorrow (or beforehand if there is a recurrence).

Nov 10, 2014 · E1000E – emulates a newer real network adapter, the 1 Gbit Intel 82574, and is available for Windows 2012 and later. The E1000E needs VM hardware version 8 or later. Above in Windows 2008 R2 with an emulated E1000 adapter the native guest operating system device driver is in use.
