Apr 19, 2019 · The logic that EIGRP is much faster than OSPF is only true if you don't implement optimizations. Once you implement tweaks like BFD and LFA then OSPF's convergence would be at par with EIGRP. If a new tech comes out, there would be multiple vendors in play. For sure majority of them will support OSPF but not EIGRP.

Both the routing protocols provide fast convergence and scale pretty well. EIGRP is certainly faster than ospf when there is availability of a feasible successor. It also works out well when the topology is confined to one geographical location whereas OSPF works out well where the topology is more heirarchial (using multiple areas).

you can not comapre those protocol,ospf is a link state protocol, eigrp is between distance vector and link state so it is a hybrid, eigrp is proprietary, ospf is a standard so it can operate in a mixed enivrenment of many router from different vendors, eigrp is faster than ospf when it comes to convergence but cannot operate in a router from others vendors.
