I have checked the .htaccess file and modified the RewriteBase to point to correct elgg installation folder (I am installing elgg on a folder, not on doc root). Cookies are enabled. Can anybody help me in resolving the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am very new to elgg. I am running elgg 1.11.1 on a MacBook Air using XAMPP 5.6.3.-0. When I register a test user I do not get any email notification. I checked the spam folders in the email but unfortunately no email. Do I need to install and configured a SMTP Server in order to send emails? Does elgg use sendmail function to send emails?

elgg.css: Compiles all the core elements/* files into one file (DO NOT OVERRIDE). elements/core.css: Contains base styles for the more complicated “css objects”. If you find yourself wanting to override this, you probably need to report a bug to Elgg core instead (DO NOT OVERRIDE).

I tried ELGG2 on PHP7 but realised that PHP7 dont support MYSQL. we need to migrate to MYSQLI. is there any temporary solution to backport MYSQL extension to PHP7.? or is there any quick fix to replace elgg mysql code with elgg mysqli call?

The rewrite test failed and the most likely cause is that AllowOverride is not set to All for Elgg’s directory. This prevents Apache from processing the .htaccess file which contains the rewrite rules. A less likely cause is Apache is configured with an alias for your Elgg directory and you need to set the RewriteBase in your .htaccess.
