    The problem is that Emacs running on X relies on xft, and xft doesn't support colour fonts yet. As far as I'm aware there's no work being done to support them. Because colour fonts aren't supported on a Free system (GNU/Linux, basically) they can't be implemented on non-Free platforms. That's a political, not technical, decision.
