It's always better to have an EMC CE logged in while shutting down (and booting) any Symmetrix/DMX storage. An EMC CE will check that you really don't have IOs. An EMC CE will take care of broken parts on startup. An EMC CE will run health checks both before powering down and resuming your storage. Yes it costs .. but worth the cost.
