ArcIMS Author does not accept shapefiles with duplicate field names. Procedure. ArcIMS only recognizes the first ten characters of an attribute field name. This is a limitation of the dBase format.

The Esri ArcScripts page also has AMLs for converting an annotation subclass to coverage point or line features. Click the link to ArcScripts in the Related Information section and do a keyword search for anno. After performing that conversion, the point or line coverage can be converted to a shapefile with the ARCSHAPE command. Related Information
