With the introduction of AHCI/SATA support in ESX 3.5 Update 3, currently, the server vendor can configure the I/O controller either in IDE/ATA or AHCI/SATA. Apr 12, 2017 · HP P410, P420, P8xx. They are SAS controllers but support SATA disks, make sure your case can accommodate the P8xx series if you go this route. Though given this is a lab, using the single disks as they are would not be an issue, just don't throw heavy IO at them and you'll be fine, just bare with things - this will cost you nothing as you have all you need in front of you.
