Jun 11, 2009 · This may sound silly, but I thought that an ESX(i) VM does not have the facility to add a virtual sound card device to the VM, therefore any guest OS will never be able to detect any audio device being present simply because the VM doesn't have any, consequently there will be no audio drivers and no interface for applications to interact with to playback the audio.

Jun 19, 2017 · I had been using my SHINA MUSE Z5 HIFI USB to S/PDIF Converter USB DAC PCM2704 Sound Card Optical Coaxial for many months with ESXi 6.0, so it was surprising that I just couldn't get sound working at all once I moved to ESXi 6.5, and it didn't matter if I had a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 controller added to the Hardware Version 13 Windows 10 VM.
