we have a 3rd party application which does NOT support TLS, and only supports AUTH LOGIN when sending mail. there is no hope to send without auth login (cannot send without authentication) it is on the local network of our exchange 2010 server. the 3rd party application needs to relay to external addresses.

Sep 28, 2010 · Same settings for outlook 2007, there is no problem to send email. But Outlook 2010 keep asking username and password for outlook 2010. Also use the same authentication method, there is no problem for outlook 2010 to send email via yahoo mail. Definitely there is something about outlook 2010 and exchange server 2010 SMTP authentication.

It was working just fine until I finished the move to Exchange 2010 and shut down the last Exchange 2003 server. Now the SMTP connection yells about not being able to relay - but only (of course) when sending to external email addresses.

For some reason if I enable the tick box 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' for my outgoing mail within the mail client, then the mail client fails to connect to my Exchange Server.
