The reason this occurs is because when fable 3 starts, it must log into Games for Windows Live before it will start. Therefore the problem is usually with GFWL and not Fable 3, and even if you cannot get GFWL to work, there is a way to circumvent it (albeit single player only and DLC free) Solution 1:

Post any that you can think of/used/think would be helpful for others: Duplicate gold/weapons/items: - (pre-patch) Join the game with a second controller and profile, give items from hero one to hero two, have hero two reject all of the gifts and kick him without saving. Hero one now has an extra of everything he just "gifted" in his gift queue.
