Jan 17, 2011 · You will want to use the vesa framebuffer if you are going to stick with the proprietary drivers. Assuming your kernel has support for it, you'll need to pass vga=somemode to the kernel. Check the "What VESA modes are available to me?"

Dec 13, 2019 · I could boot into the system and get the nvidia-drivers to work, second approach later was to compile the nouveau driver into the kernel and boot it up with KMS and get meaningful output of the kernel and init steps right from the start (that was the 3rd hurdle I had, afaik, that some scripts weren't set up correctly - e.g. luks, etc.)

I thought it has something to do with the graphics settings in the kernel configuration under Device drivers-> Graphics support, particularly the Frame buffer settings. I have everything activated which is active in the kernel provided by Ubuntu, except for the fb drivers for specific chipsets other than nvidiafb, since I have an Nvidia card ...
