May 12, 2010 · FFMPEG WMV3 Encoding Support ffmpeg accepts WMV3 or wmv9 encoding files as input. as per the ffmpeg documentation ffmpeg has wmv3/wmv9 docoder but it does not have wmv3/wmv9 encoder. so it cann't convert video to wmv3 format. but it accepts wmv3 as input and convert this into any other formats supported by ffmpeg.

wmv3 should be in there. Use ffmpeg -codecs to list what is in your build. Last time I checked no one looked like they were going to do vc-1 but unless you really need vc-1 just use h.264 and you can mux this into an ASF wrapper in the case you have some special Windows/WMV requirements. Oct 13, 2006 · The version of ffmpeg I have installed supports decoding of WMV3, as I see it when I run 'ffmpeg -formats' However VLC can't find a decoder for wmv3. I'm running VLC 0.8.4a on linux from livna.org Is this a matter of upgrading VLC, or how else can I make use of ffmpeg's wmv3 decoder in VLC? Thanks Ricardo
