We operated inside fire support bases with our six 105 mm howitzers. Some bases we built. We also moved to some constructed by others. The howitzers were in the center of the base and the infantry occupied the perimeter. We shot in 360 degrees of the compass (6400 mills in artillery speak) 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

We are attempting to list all of the places C 2/5 Cav occupied during its 6 1/2 years in Vietnam. To be included in the list, the company must have actually been on the base (as opposed to the battalion headquarters being there), and there must have been some sort of semi-permanent structure or artillery pieces on the site, (as opposed to it being merely a place to land helicopters.)

Fire Support Base Six (FSB 6) was located in the Central Highlands of the Republic of Vietnam in the vicinity of Kontum, near the borders of Cambodia and Laos. It was possible to view both these from Firebase Six even thoughthe jungle looked the same on both sides of the border and it was difficult to distinguish where the border was.
