ZFS TRIM support was added to FreeBSD 10-CURRENT with revision r 240868. ZFS TRIM support was added to all FreeBSD-STABLE branches in r 252162 and r 251419 , respectively. ZFS TRIM is enabled by default, and can be turned off by adding this line to /etc/sysctl.conf :

Solved - ZFS, GELI, and SSD: TRIM Support? The FreeBSD ...

    https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/zfs-geli-and-ssd-trim-support.50654/latest
Mar 09, 2015 · Alright, so after some further reading of the Handbook and the ZFS Best Practices and the links gofer_touch gave me it seems the built-in ZFS TRIM support and GELI work together just fine, so I've set up the SSD. This bit from the FreeBSD Handbook resulted in a change of plans:

Features - OpenZFS

An alternative method, which is arguably better, and works by tracking the metaslab allocator is also in progress and can be found here: Add UNMAP/TRIM functionality to ZFS and Illumos. There is a pull request for ZFS On Linux which implements FreeBSD's (Sep 2012) ZFS TRIM support.

TRIM Support Is Closer To Being Merged For ZFS On Linux ...

Apr 13, 2018 · TRIM/UNMAP support has already been available in FreeBSD's ZFS code for several years but not yet in the other OpenZFS projects like ZFS On Linux. TRIM, of course, can improve the solid-state drive performance as in effect a more efficient garbage collection of informing the SSD about no longer needed blocks.

FreeBSD appears to lack support for TRIM - BLOB storage ...

Jul 22, 2016 · Without TRIM support, the amount of Block storage that is used behind a virtual disk does not represent the actual amount of space that is being used by the VM. This means that in my FreeBSD VM, FreeBSD reports that it is using 48GB of a 1TB attached disk. However, my block storage is being reported by Azure as 158GB and is growing by 5B a day.

ZFS with SSDs: Am I asking for a headache in the near future?

Feb 21, 2017 · I have no idea how the lack of TRIM in ZFS affects cache performance in the long term, but all SSDs have automatic garbage collection / maintenance routines, so I think the most important thing is to set aside some decent OP (over provision = unpartitioned space) area, like 15-20% of the capacity, and I reckon everything should be fine.

TRIM support for ZFS / ZoL : zfs

TRIM support for ZFS / ZoL. ... Does anyone have experience with both Linux and FreeBSD? Is one ZFS port more reliable than the other? In general, I would prefer to run FreeBSD over Linux, but the linux implementation supposedly has more active development.
