Dec 07, 2011 · USB 3 disk on a USB 2 port This may sound stupid, but do I need USB 3 support to use FreeNAS from a USB 3 disk connected on a USB 2 port? From what I've tried, the USB 3 disk boots, the kernel loads but the attempt to mount the root FS fails.

I will contact the FreeBSD USB team and check status on fixing xhci(4) for Lynx Point PCH. Note that earlier chipsets have supported USB 3.0, such as the H77 Express chipset used on pre-Haswell boards and in the iXsystems FreeNAS Mini. Disabling USB 3.0 globally will disable the 3.0 ports unnecessarily on those systems.

Mar 03, 2019 · As I found out by “trial & error” (or educated guessing, as some would say), the only reason for this huge slowdown was that “Legacy USB 3.0 Support” was enabled in the AMI BIOS (the effect is reproducible). So, just disable “Legacy USB 3.0 Support”[1] in the BIOS and FreeNAS >= 11.2 will boot quickly again.

May 14, 2017 · Im a newbie to Freenas and have just setup a FreeNAS-11.2-U4.1 server watching youtube videos. Had a spare pc lying around with 3 x 1TB Hdd and got 2gb memory. Have installed Freenas and setup shares and selected Raid1 striped to utilize all 3 disks for maximum space.
