For anyone reading this who does not have VLC, you will first need to download and install VLC Media player for OS X, get it at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html This will install the proper codecs - the software necessary to play the video format. Now download and install sapphire.

The first issue I’ve got is to get various movie formats to work on my G5, I have mostly .mp4 and .mkv videos with mixed quality, 720p seems to play fine no matter the format or player, but 1080p seems to be very hit or miss, especially if the file is over 5 GB and is MKV, video is choppy.

Jan 21, 2009 · mkv as a container requires quite some cpu power during playback and while quicktime on frontrow uses the gpu to help with 720p mp4 files, xbmc has to rely solely on the cpu for decoding and the atv has a comparatively lame cpu, but a decent gpu. and since the gpu api is closed source, I doubt that xbmc will ever be able to properly play back ...

Jun 19, 2018 · Hi I don't think you can play MKV in Front Row. You need to get them into iTunes and the easiest thing I've seen to do this is VideoMonkey. It's free and will recode your MKV files into MOV files and then automatically add them to iTunes (you can tell it that the files are TV shows or movies so they show up in the right section)

Aug 01, 2009 · (or vise versa, well using front row to play FLAC, MKV etc.) So i can sit back, use the remote, browse through albums, movies etc. easy and nice looking... I have no volume control on my amplifier, going out on USB, system volume disables, so I have to use the one in VLC, there are no such one in front row! (uses OS volume) Hope you can help.

Jan 15, 2008 · you play a movie with .srt subtitles on Front Row, every time a subtitle should be on screen, the video become completely black. When there are not subtitles, the video play well. This problem appears only on FrontRow, with QuickTime, all works fine. This problem appears on all builds I tested (9A527, 9A559 and 9A581, the final one).

May 17, 2012 · Well like I stated in the beginning, this same "crippled" computer w/ a "low-memory powered processor" USE to play HD quality files w/o a problem in VLC.They were perfect! Even now I can get some to play in "Freesmith" is the best I've come across by adjusting the system defaults a little.
