Feb 13, 2007 · GEGL integration is planned to begin after 2.4 is released, and 16-bit support will be facilitated through the use of GEGL. Sven would be able to be more specific; I can say that the 2.4 .. 2.6development cycle will be AFAIK dedicated primarily to GEGL integration.

Jun 11, 2018 · An uncompressed tiff from delaboratory 96 MB compresses to 78 MB and opens in Gimp as 16 bit, which surprised me considering the Gimp warning. Trying to change compression, the usual quality setting had little effect, so probably not possible.
