The driver is the driver code name used by GDAL; see your GDAL installation’s documentation for available drivers. Notes: (1) If a tiff file (.tif) is selected then we will write a GeoTiff image if the GMT projection syntax translates into a PROJ4 syntax, otherwise a plain tiff file is produced. (2) Any vector elements will be lost.

Dec 25, 2019 · GMT reads and writes geospatial data, but only in NetCDF or simple text format. Starting from GMT 5 with the support from GDAL, it is able to process many more geospatial data formats, such as GeoTIFF and shapefile.

A third alternative is available when GMT is build with GDAL support. Pass img which can be an image file (geo-referenced or not). In this case the images can optionally be illuminated with the file provided via the -I option. Here, if image has no coordinates then those of the intensity file will be used.

GDAL is an open source multi-format read/write library for geospatial raster data. I am interested in pointers to sample netCDF "grid" files, or cooperation from anyone intersted in testing the GDAL netCDF support - especially GMT users.

r.in.gdal is used to import the new NetCDF GMT grd format. See the GDAL netCDF driver page. If for some reason r.in.gdal doesn't work (e.g. your copy of GDAL wasn't build with GMT/NetCDF support) you can convert the new-style grid file into the old-style grid format and then proceed to import with the r.in.bin -h method as given

GMT is an open source collection of about 90 command-line tools for manipulating geographic and Cartesian data sets (including filtering, trend fitting, gridding, projecting, etc.) and producing PostScript illustrations ranging from simple x–y plots via contour maps to artificially illuminated surfaces and 3D perspective views.
