Sep 09, 2012 · Every time I reinstall Windows, it overwrites my boot sector, and I need to reinstall it from the Ubuntu live CD to recover my dual-boot system. However, since my Ubuntu install is inside an LVM partition, this is not very straightforward. Here's how to do it. I'm assuming some experience with the command prompt, but since you're apparently running LVM, you're not a total beginner.

GRUB2 on Debian 9 is definitely able to read from a normal ("linear") LVM2 volume on MD raid1 (metadata v1.2). However I found this only seems to work if you do insmod lvm before insmod mdraid1x.. Jun 26, 2018 · Is that how "GRUB support LVM" stems from? not important: I am playing with virtualbox today, start with just one hd and set the whole hd to lvm and cannot get it to work. ... grub-install with LVM on entire disk. xtricman, please do not necrobump old threads.

If you did forget to compile in GPT support into Linux you can probably get away with this if your LVM partition is not bigger than the maximum that the MBR partition table can support. Just access the grub partition through hda2 instead of hda1 until you get round to re-compiling Linux.

Jun 24, 2015 · With this I could restore GRUB2 but there only an "Ubuntu" system was listed (I used an Ubuntu live CD). Therefore I thought it didn't work and booted from LiveCD again and tired an combination of HOWTO: Reinstall GRUB if you're using LVM and Grub2/Installing#via_the_LiveCD_terminal. With following steps I was able to boot Mint again.

Oct 14, 2017 · Having /boot on LVM is not a supported configuration. It can be done using a kickstart but if it subsequently breaks then you get to keep all the pieces. CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later! CentOS 5 has been EOL for nearly 3 years and should no longer be used for anything!
