Aug 18, 2014 · Handbrake is just a GUI for the command line encoder x264. x264 is a software encoder that can offload a small component of its workload to the GPU for a small overall performance improvement. The vast majority of the encoding will still be done on the CPU. If you want "proper" GPU acceleration you'll need to look elsewhere.

Nov 20, 2019 · Thought I'd give people a heads up if you use Handbrake for encodes. Yes, software (CPU) is still the best as far as quality (and if you need Filters like noise removal it uses the CPU still; actually apparently it only uses the encode feature so everything else is done on the CPU), but after doing some testing, especially doing h265 of Blu-ray source, the quality is good enough for me, and ...

Feb 05, 2018 · And yes, handbrake doesn't support Nvenc. If you rely on Handbrake, there is QSV hardware acceleration. It means Intel cpu capabel of QSV and integrated graphics card that supported it. Link you posted seems they are still waiting for support of AMD acceleration, I can't check it, because I have Nvidia. But there is nothing in option, but QSV.
