Jun 07, 2011 · And since movies aren't interlaced, never deinterlace movies, period. They might be hard telecined, so you IVTC. They might be field-blended, so you unblend. But don't deinterlace. Some deinterlacers can be set to deinterlace only if interlacing is found and to leave clean frames alone, but it's still a stupid idea to use a deinterlacer on a movie.

Use mediainfo and set to sheet to find if tff or bff 4) feel free to set resolution, etc It's all about retaining motion resolution.

For example, one pattern, commonly observed in NTSC content, is 2 interlaced frames and 3 normal frames (or 2 duplicated fields in 8 fields). For PAL content, in very rare cases, this pattern is 2 interlaced frames and 23 normal frames (or 2 duplicated fields in 48 fields). Just leave this filter on default for such videos. Else keep it off.

Aug 17, 2015 · why are my ripped dvds choppy?? Thread ... Each field contains one whole fame, so every real fame carries 2 interlaced frames. So american television is actually 60 Fields per second, and when played back on TV, 60 FPS is what you get. Well most encoders try to deinterlace fields. Feb 04, 2014 · Handbrake decomb filters and frame rate In handbrake it is possible to do deinterlacing with either decomb or deinterlacing filters. As I read in HandBrake's WIKI, decomb filter seems to be a better option because it works for both interlaced and progressive videos.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlaced_video
Interlaced video (also known as Interlaced scan) is a technique for doubling the perceived frame rate of a video display without consuming extra bandwidth. The interlaced signal contains two fields of a video frame captured consecutively. This enhances motion perception to the viewer, and reduces flicker by taking advantage of the phi phenomenon.

Another definition of "interlaced" is the used encoding type: Either the whole frame was encoded "progressively" or every frame was encoded as two fields (interlaced, PAFF) or (the following is said to produce better compression) a more sophisticated method that also leads to "interlaced" encoding as detected by Mediainfo is used.
