I configured this setting when I wrote the original article on it back in August 2008 and haven’t touched it since, but have used the Gmail gadget on iGoogle every day since then. This leads me to two thoughts: Gmail just now started using the ‘always use https’ setting to secure Gmail always, including connecting through iGoogle.

I guess the problem is, that the notifier does not recognize the setting in the gmail account - weather you have or you don't have the https setting. So the notifier has the setting for normal http as most people use the gmail.

Does not work for Freshdesk's updated "Mint" platform and Google's new Gmail. Since we moved to both in our Org, it no longer works. We used this plugin before and it worked well, sad to see it go. One star because this plug in either needs to be updated OR removed from the Marketplace as it no longer does what described.
