If your program chooses TLS for 587 automatically, then it is confusing TLS with StartTLS. hMailServer does not support StartTLS. When you setup service protected with SSL in hMailServer, you are setting up service protected with TLSv1.

Aug 07, 2017 · The OLE DB Provider used by hMailServer does not support TLS 1.2, so simply stating that the connection should be encrypted won't work since the connection to a TLS 1.2 server will fail anyway. I have added an ini-file-setting which lets you override the provider to be used.

This I did by creating a certificate request in IIS, which I uploaded to a CA (StartSSL, FWIW). I then downloaded and saved the certificate file in IIS.
