    Could be this a problem related to 64bits? I am using Debian sid with linux-image-2.6.24-1-686 and it works for me. Though I have to say some time ago I had a similar problem when I was using 2.6.18 and try update to next versions of kernel and I was some time using 2.6.18 for this reason.
