The GL40 chipset will support Any Socket P CPU with a max of 800Mhz FSB. I have owned multiple Toshiba Satellite L355's, and have installed upwards of a T9500 and T9300 successfully. These all work:

GL40 chipset only supports CPUs with 800/667 MHz FSB. T9500 has 800 MHz FSB and is the therefore the fastest CPU for the GL40 chipset, but is more expensive. However best value is the T9300, cheaper then T9500.

Jan 06, 2009 · So, either the BIOS of his notebook was locked down, in order for the higher FSB CPUs to not work with the GL40 chipset, or Intel realised that they made a mistake during the Santa-Rosa era, and fixed the loophole or whatever there was with the GL960 chipset, and added a hardware lock on the GL40, to not support higher FSB CPUs.
