One seems to involve way less moving parts than the other (straight up teaming instead of teaming + vlan + MPIO). And I usually feel that simpler is usually better.

Oct 19, 2018 · I have been using Switch Embedded Teaming on a couple of standalone Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V hypervisors for some time now and love the simplicity of management behind it. The switch/NIC team is quickly created through PowerShell and multiple vNICs are created for both VMs and the management OS.

Re: NIC teaming on my iSCSI network with Hyper-V I would open a case with Dell / EQL support. Problem with teamed / ISCSI MPIO is that on a link failure there will be a disagreement between them and will bring the node down.
