Dec 23, 2009 · At least my living room is no longer holding 4 or 5 hundred CD's, they are all in itunes and on my Apple TV. I really wanted to capture the higher quality of SACD, but I guess I will have to let it go and use the SACD player in the front room.

Jan 23, 2012 · Yes, my DVD drive in my PC won't play the SACD layer, so I must assume that it's the CD (Redbook) layer that it's accessing. I did initially rip the disc into iTunes using a default import setting of 256 VBR. I've since replaced those files with Apple Lossless Audio (still .m4a files), and you're correct: a 4:30 song comes in at around 30MB.

Oct 31, 2007 · The only way to hear that is with a SACD capable player. Unfortunately, the format war between SACD and DVD-Audio (as well as the increased prices and increased DRM of the formats) killed them both off. Support for SACD and DVD Audio among DVD players has been almost completely dropped. Sony is even dropping SACD support from the $399 PS3.

There is a great thread over on head-fi on it

iTunes and Hi-Rez - Audiophile Review

Sep 26, 2012 · First a lot depends on what the previous music file's resolution was. iTunes will ALWAYS default to whatever resolution the DAC is currently set for. If the DAC is set for 44.1/16 it will downsample and then play your 192/24 file at 44.1/16. But if your DAC is set for 192/24, iTunes will happily play your 192/24 file at 192/24.
