Jan 23, 2016 · The low-cost "Chromecast Audio" device supports optical SPDIF via its 3.5mm jack, so my thought is that the physical component isn't too expensive (if you can find the source for it). It would be nice to have/tout SPDIF support without having to create a daughter card.

The only sound card that I am aware of that comes with drivers for doing DTS-output over SPDIF in all applications and games is the Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium (ie. the most ass-hat expensive one of them) that I have on my desktop.

Apr 11, 2014 · Okay, so this should be a reasonably easy question, my motherboard's (ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z) on board audio card/chip has an optical audio option. I recently saw a fairly good amplifier that supports 5.1 and optical, and I would like to use it for my pc setup. My question is, since I never saw the option in my audio manager, does my audio chip's optical SPDIF support true 5.1?
