Multi-processor support for JVM . Micah Wedemeyer. Ranch Hand Posts: 68. posted 17 years ago. Do multi-threaded Java programs running on a multi-processor machine make use of the extra processor power? Since the JVM is itself a process that is delegated to a processor, I would think that Java is destined to never truly function as a parallel ...

A JVM runs in a single process and threads in a JVM share the heap belonging to that process. Then how does JVM make use of multiple cores which provide multiple OS threads for high concurrency? Java will utilize the underlying OS' threads to do the actual job of executing the code on different CPUs, if running on a multi-CPU machine.

Feb 21, 2002 · this is more a windows problem than a solaris. Microsoft jvm divides the task evenly among processors ..and it is seen that all the processors are working at the time. I just want to know if this is an inherent JVM problem. cos threading does increase the efficiency of the program right well unless there is a lot of synchronization code.
