Using Console.OutputEncoding will be sufficient for this. All string objects in .NET are by default unicode so changing output encoding for console to UTF-8 will work as you want in modern Windows installations. Default encoding in console depends on configuration but it will be most likely IBM437 for US language or some local codepage.

There is a program unicode_start that puts the console in Unicode mode. In addition, the console can support a codepage of 256 (or 512) characters only at any given time, so you need to make sure that you have loaded a console font with the appropriate characters.

Encoding for the application can be set in "Run/Debug Configuration" window in the "VM parametrs:" "-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8" string makes UTF-8 default encoding for the app.

If there is a way from within the source, I'd prefer it, but if there isn't, storing in an extrernal file is acceptable. 3) I believe they are UTF-8 encoded, but I'm not sure. If you're right though, this may not be such a minor thing.
