    Possibly a BIOS update exists for your machine that adds LBA48 support. Short stroke the drive and use only the lower ~8.5 GB. Make an ~8.5 GB C: drive and partition the rest of the drive in Windows 9x. Windows has its own IDE controller driver with LBA48 support. A danger of doing this is an address overflow in pure DOS corrupting your drive.
