If he built OpenLDAP from source, then of course it had no SASL support since he says he didn't install SASL until *after* he installed OpenLDAP. Obviously you can't compile with SASL support if the SASL devel packages weren't already present at compile time.

Hoi Gaurav if you did a vanilla install from a distro, you may be as lucky as to find a package in this distro (such as openldap-sasl or similar), which "converts" your LDAP server into an LDAP server, which is SASL capable. If there is no such package, there is no way around recompilation of the LDAP server. Also, have you considered upgrading or re-installing the entire system?

Aug 23, 2010 · I tried to telnet on port 25 but I did not see the 250-STARTTLS and 250-AUTH PLAIN LOGIN yet. I also set smtpd_tls_loglevel = 14 in the main.cf and I see "warning: smtpd_sasl_auth_enable is true, but SASL support is not compiled in" and "warning: TLS has been selected, but TLS support is not compiled in" in the maillog.

Sep 16, 2009 · smtpd_sasl_auth_enable is true, but SASL support is not compiled in. I've tested successfully with testsaslauthd, but I don't think postfix auth is even making it that far. A telnet session reveals that no auth mechanisms are being declared as supported. $ telnet localhost submission

postconf -a and postconf -A tell you what sasl plugin types are available. I would assume those would return errors or empty lists if sasl support was not enabled at build time (though possibly not). You could also check the output of ldd /path/to/postfix and see if it links to a sasl library or not (though it might be possible for postfix to be built with sasl and not link to a sasl library ...
