If you have a UEFI device, take advantage of it. Dump MBR for GPT and use an EFI boot setup. Both ELILO and GRUB2 will work with a LUKS encrypted drive, but again GRUB2 is favored.

Nov 29, 2017 · Hi, i'm installing a SLES 11 SP4 on a HP server. I'd like to have GPT. From what i understand i need UEFI for that. GPT without UEFI is only possible witg GRUB2, but SLES 11 SP4 has GRUB legacy. Furthermore i read that UEFI + GPT + GRUB legacy is only possible with eLilo. Is that true ? No way to have GRUB legacy with GPT ? Is eLilo popular ?

Feb 16, 2011 · The lilo command also works just fine. I tried it because I was not sure if it looked at the partition entries, and it would be a critical piece to keep the system running. Any idea when Slackware will have GPT support? GPT is required for partitions larger than 2TB or starting after the 2TB line.
