Access Windows files on Homegroup from Linux laptop. I am having trouble getting my Mint 17 laptop to access the shared folders I have on my Windows 7 Desktop. I can access the shared folder on my laptop from my desktop, but not the other way around. I am even able to copy a file from my W7 desktop into the folder on the Linux machine.

Aug 19, 2016 · Thanks. I have set up my windows 7 box as shown in the page. However, this does not help. When I say I am trying to access the homegroup on Windows 7 what I mean is that the win pc shows up in my local network on linux, and when I click to connect with it, I get a dialog box, exactly as shown in the link I posted:
