4. If you ever need to delete a file from the floppy, it is best to press Shift + delete rather than just pressing delete. The problem might be historical. Linux was was written in 1991 when 5.25 inch floppies were no longer popular and the 3.5 inch floppy was the standard. Just as Linux did not support the old Intel 286 chip, it may not have adequately supported the old 5.25 inch floppy drive.

In accordance with my tutorial, it would be nice to see a fix for floppy support. I know one of the nice things about linux is general older hardware support. Since the floppy would classify as older hardware, I think support should be enabled.

Linux Mint has a Create rescue floppy disk feature found here: Control Center > StartUp-Manager > Advanced > Misc. 'Create rescue floppy' However only the oldest of PC's and Laptop's have a floppy disk. The Linux Mint user that clicks on 'Create rescue floppy' immediately see's 'Formatting Floppy' regardless if they have a physical or virtual floppy device on that system.
