Apr 13, 2006 · Does NCQ is supported in linux? I'd like to bye Promise SATA300 TX2 plus controller and two NCQ-capable hdd's for software RAID0. Card support NCQ. Will it works on linux ? If both hdd and controller support NCq - is it enough for NCQ or there must be support by software drive also?

Summary: No TCQ/NCQ in early chipsets. NCQ support added in later chipsets. Looks like a PATA controller, but with full SATA control including hotplug and PM. Update: NVIDIA has provided information (under NDA) that permits implementation of NCQ support, and a sample Linux implementation (patch) as well. Unfortunately, the patch needs debugging ...

I would like to reproduce this scenario on my Linux PC, but the Linux AHCI driver has NCQ enabled by default. I need to disable NCQ, so I found this website describing how to disable NCQ, but it doesn't work. The Linux PC still reaches 190 MiB/s write performance.

Apr 14, 2015 · Hannes Reinecke has implemented NCQ Autosense support from the new ATA command specification (ACS-4). Hannes explained in his patches, "with ACS-4 ATA drives inherited the possibility to return SCSI sense codes, allowing for a more precise error handling. Not to mention a nice alignment with the SCSI error handling.
