Feb 06, 2015 · Hi, I am browsing through all lightweight distros I can find to see which one I can get to play on an old Acer travelmate 2301LC (Celeron M320, 1Gb RAM). What I have read about the Celeron M32o is that it should support PAE, but almost all distros halt during installation or at startup after...

Multi-core and multi-CPU support in 32-bit kernel. To guarantee compatibility with non-PAE processors, the 32-bit versions of Linux Mint Debian come with a 486 kernel by default. This kernel does not support SMP, and as a consequence is only able to detect one core and one CPU.

PAE - Community Help Wiki

Aug 17, 2018 · Lubuntu and Xubuntu offered a PAE and a non-PAE release up to and including 12.04, but from 12.10 only the PAE releases are maintained. A number of older Pentium M processors produced around 2003-4 (the Banias family) do not display the PAE flag, and hence a normal installation fails.

Mar 14, 2015 · Ubuntu 12.04 (as well as Kubuntu 12.04 and newer Ubuntu versions) uses the PAE Linux kernel by default for 32bit ISOs so old computers that don't support PAE can't boot the latest Ubuntu version. But there is a way to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin on computers without PAE support: using the non-PAE netboot Minimal ISO (there are ...

Dec 24, 2018 · I believe that with either 52.8 or 52.9, support for non-PAE was being wrapped up by Mozilla, and that the one for non-PAE drops dead latest date is set at 28th August. BUT (there is always a but with Wizard), Mozilla themselves say that the timeframes they set are not necessarily restricting on those Linux Developers whom ship their products ...

If you have hardware that doesn't support PAE, you're going to have to build your own kernel. No generic distro-config'd kernel is going to work for you. I'd suggest Gentoo, but given that you don't have PAE and given that PAE has been common since 1995, I can't imagine Gentoo would be pleasant on whatever hardware you're packing.
