Support for 802.1Q on Linux-based systems is provided by the 8021q kernel module. As of kernel version 3.10 (released in June 2013), this includes support for 802.1ad. Single-tagged 802.1Q VLANs can be configured using the vconfig command, but this does not support 802.1ad.

Jun 06, 2017 · Enabling QinQ support in OVS is a simple configuration change. You must set the vlan-limit option to a value of 0 (unlimited) or 2. By default vlan-limit has a value of 1, which means only one VLAN tag will be inspected. This preserves backward compatibility with older OVS releases.

Oct 23, 2017 · QinQ (or the standardized 802.1ad) is not supported in 2.5 or 3.0 currently. It should be coming in 3.1 or 3.2, not sure specifically, but it is definitely on the roadmap. The Linux kernel support for QinQ was not great previously, but it is finally usable in 4.1.
