Sound support in the Linux kernel was originally written by Hannu Savolainen. Hannu then went on to develop the Open Sound system, a commercial set of sound drivers sold by 4Front Technologies that is supported on a number of Unix systems. Red Hat Software sponsored Alan Cox to enhance the kernel sound drivers to make them fully modular.

Enable “OSS API emulation” (CONFIG_SND_OSSEMUL) and both OSS mixer and PCM supports if you want to run OSS applications with ALSA.

Apr 10, 2018 · WSL doesn't currently support sound devices. Hence when you open a GUI desktop or apps in X410, you will not hear anything other than the basic system bells (ex. CTRL+G). We hope Microsoft add the support in the future version of WSL. You should be able to encourage them by upvoting the following UserVoice topic: Sound card & ALSA support
