The patch will need improvement, since it effectively makes mc+facter Windows-specific as opposed to Linux+Windows. A “proper” patch will certainly need to make the correct decisions at runtime. My work is on a system I cannot access at present, but will be able to get at the code again beginning Monday.

May 19, 2012 · With MCollective version 2.0 we have now support to control Windows Servers. The only thing you must take care is that you need to update all your infrastructure to mco 2.0 because you cannot control servers that have a different version installed.

When you want to trigger an action, e.g. via mco on the command line, MCollective will post a message to activemq, and the appropriate Windows/Linux client(s), also connected to the queue, will respond. Your Windows firewall will need to allow outbound connections on typically ports 8140 (puppetmaster) and 61613 (activemq).
