The only other way to reset the MD3000i back to factory is to do a syswipe on it. To do a syswipe you need to have the serial cable & will need to contact tech support and they can walk you through it.

Some of these drives are reasonably priced online so I was wondering if it was possible to purchase from another retailer and have them work in the Powervault MD3000i? Dell Support page. If it did not end up coming with the correct Dell firmware (i.e. it came with a generic firmware) woud it be possible to flash the correct firmware from Dell?

Oct 01, 2009 · The MD3000i has 12 x 1TB 7.2K SATA drives configured as a single disk group in RAID 5. That disk group is then exported to Xenserver 5.5 as a single storage repository. The R610 has been configured with 4 connections to the MD3000i via 2 of it's onboard NICs and then 2 from a PCI-E card (all of which are the BCM5709).

Oct 06, 2012 · I have a wonderful setup Dell R710 Servers with Vmware 4.x installed with iSCSI Dell DM3000i. Works like a charm. However I purchased a third server and installed VMware 5.0 and it will not connect via iSCSI and i did some research and found that the Dell MD3000i is no longer supported with the latest version of VMware.
