The default modem provided by both Comcast and Knology (who is -I guess- now WOW!) is (or was, in the case of Knology) a bridge device that requires you to provide your own router. You have to ask for a modem that's also a router to get something that's not a bridge. That doesn't mean that the modem doesn't have an IP address, mind.

Apr 06, 2015 · Hi all. I need to get a modem/router that supports SSH. I currently have a cheap D-Link and I have found they don't support SSH at all. I bought a NetGear DGN2200 on recommendation of the guy at Officeworks and after 3 hours with NetGear support they told me it doesn't support SSH!
