Dec 01, 2009 · Hi, Please could someone clarify a hyper-v question: I have the Intel DG35EC motherboard, with the latest BIOS. My current CPU is the E7300, which does not support hyper-v. So I am thinking of just buying something that my board supports, like the E8400 for example - which does support hyper-v.

Hyper-V requires Second Level Address Translation (SLAT) -- present in the current generation of 64-bit processors by Intel and AMD. You can run 3 or 4 basic virtual machines on a host that has 4GB of RAM, though you'll need more resources for more virtual machines.

The motherboard has to also support hardware virtualization. Unfortunately the motherboard manufacturers don’t seem to make it really easy to determine whether or not their motherboard supports Hardware Virtualization. You can check the box or description and see if it lists AMD-V or VT-x, which they may or may not list.

Apr 10, 2017 · Hi, I'm on the same motherboard and have enabled Virtualization to use my VMs. Other than having to re-enable HPET (as AMD said to turn it off for performance) to keep lag/stutter down, I haven't had any other issues. I did migrate my VirtualBox VMs to Hyper-V as it seems to run much better.

I've been looking into how to enable hYper V on my MSI X99S Gaming 7 motherboard for Windows 8.1. All the settings related to virtualization are enabled but when I look for Hyper V in Windows Features of my installation, I don't see anything related to Hyper V.

Feb 16, 2008 · Virtual machines are a software solution in its nature. CPUs with virtualization support can more efficiently run virtual machines with OS support (by recognizing virtual machines and assigning related tasks to capable CPUs) but you don't have to have a hardware support to run a VM, technically speaking. I don't think motherboard has anything to do with Virtualization.
