I only know TagLib which supports it, and most software on Linux uses TagLib, so I am a bit surprised that MPD does not support it (I do not know MPD, but for libid3tag, which is on the dependency list of the mpd Ubuntu package, the package description states that it supports ID3v2.4.0 (read/write) whereas ID3v2.3.0 support is read-only).

May 07, 2017 · Support for embedded covert art is currently missing. Most MPD clients fall back to downloading album covers from web services like amazon. Unfortunately, this can result in wrong or no covers being displayed, especially when listening to uncommon or older releases.

Oct 11, 2013 · Yeah that would be no problem. Is it really that slow? I've actually read thousands of mp3s in a loop and it didn't seem to take that long. The reason it is built this way is so that if you only want one tag field, I didn't want to have to wait for all the fields to be read.
