Dec 19, 2004 · Dear All I have just installed pptp client on Mandrake 10.1 Official following the instruction given at pptp client's site. However, when I try to connect to a VPN server, I get the following message in the log: MPPE required, but kernel has no support.

Diagnosis: either the kernel has no MPPE support, or this version of pppd is incompatible with the MPPE kernel module version you used. The most likely cause is using PPP 2.4.2 or later on a kernel that has an MPPE module built for PPP-MPPE 2.4.0 or 2.4.1. For a bit more history on this, see also Why are the pppd options different?

I have also tried connecting via PPTP but I get a connection refused message. I have it turned on in the server, and all of the necessary ports and protocols forwarded.
